Vic drives to California!

Finally, I can actually say, "I drove" somewhere. I think this site became more of "Vic's Flyin'" with all my writings on aviation and the military airshows along with my strong interest in travel. Everything just fell-into place planning this trip. I decided to use my "in-between" time changing jobs to take a driving sojourn in my new VW Golf to visit my Mom and friends in my native California. I (geekishly) kept track of all my mileage and expenses in a travel-log. In my 9-days I was on-the-road, I ate 2200 miles of pavement! 1600+ miles alone on the roundtrip from Seattle, plus another 600+ just driving throughout the Bay Area and the Foothills visiting friends. Amazing! It just didn't feel like that many miles, but they add-up! The aspect of visiting old friends I dislike the most, is the requisite driving distances. Nothing is, or no one ever lives near anyone else! Californian's are known for their marathon commutes, so I had to spend a lot of time on-the-road if I wanted to visit. I still field questions on if I'll ever return to live in CA. At this point, I have no overwhelming desire to unless I could get a well-paying job AND LIVE NEARBY WHERE I WORK!(That's asking a lot in CA where most "affordable" housing never is near where most people work!)

Before writing this, I realized that I never posted for August. I try to post happenin's monthly, but August was a very "bad" month...I hate the "city-summer"...too many tourists, noticably heavier traffic, and all I did was work, work, as I had to cover the store with longer work weeks due to others that took vacation time! I'm now on permanent vacation from the store and look forward to my new sales position.

Here's a few pics from this trip below. I have a few of Mt Shasta while I drove through N. CA, but not in my files yet. It's feeling more like Fall now after feeling the almost "perpetual summer" of California's Central Valley and close to 100 daily. I'm looking forward to the pace of things slowing a bit as the cooler temps set-in. Only 1 week to go for the Autumnal Equinox and the dreaded, and very short days here of winter....It's dark by 3:45pm by mid-December!

Here I am in my "Born to be Wild" pose on Dr Steve's BMW...well, I can dream! As much as I like machinery in general, I never seriously ever considered getting a bike!
